Textile tour of Gujarat, India
Description of Textile tour of Gujarat, India
Stunning Patola silks, fascinating Tangliya and Mashru weaving techniques, ancient tie dye methods: If you’re wild about textiles, let your creative side run free on this inspirational trip to Gujarat, India, a state known for the craft.
This tour takes you all the way across the state of Gujarat from Bhuj to Ahmedabad: hundreds of kilometres in which you’ll drop in on the many places practising traditional textile techniques.
You’ll discover the unique embroidery styles adopted by different tribal groups in the Baani region. You’ll see Tangliya weaving and Mashru weaving, performed by those who know it best, and you might get a chance to visit a family who specialise in weaving Patola silk. There’s a Bandhani workshop, where you can learn a centuries-old tie and dye technique, and you’ll also visit an NGO dedicated to supporting Kutch women embroiders.
In Ahmedabad you can visit the calico museum – a fitting end to a tour that picks up the threads – but can never cover all of many different textile traditions in this remarkable state.
Aside from visiting different local artisans, you’ll also spend time in the Little Rann of Kutch, a vast area of protected salt marsh, to visit one of India’s largest wildlife sanctuaries, and the only home of the endangered Ghudkhar, or Asiatic wild ass. Your jeep safari might also reveal gazelle, wolves, jackals and wild boar.
This is a private tour, where you’ll be accompanied by a guide at all times. All meals are included. October to March is the best time to go – but expect higher prices around Diwali, Christmas and New Year festivities. Also expect to return home with a slightly fuller suitcase…

Greetings !
Thank you for taking the time and giving us your feedback.
Regarding your comment whether your holidays benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation....
I personally feel it has positively impacted the local people. Your visits to the local artisans and their communities have given them an opportunity to showcase their traditional crafts that they have been carrying on from generation to generation. Besides this, your trip has helped the following social and environmental causes :
Support to NGO - Sightsavers which has also acknowledged your support by giving an appreciation letter to you. This NGO promotes the inclusion and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities, including visual impairments or blindness, to achieve their maximum potential. Support to WWF India - by buying a recyclable shopping bag which we hope you would have used during the trip. WWF India works towards stopping the degradation of the planet's natural environment and building a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
We gave you a Stainless steel bottle that you would have used on your trip to help reduce single use plastic. We are quite sure that this trip has impacted your surroundings in a positive way. We thank you again for giving us an opportunity to organise your travel in Vibrant Gujarat. We hope to see you soon in India. Best regards Ravinder

-Our environmental policy starts from our office and our homes. We use minimum of papers, we donot print unless and until it is essential. Once paper is printed and has served its purpose, it is reused from opposite side either for printing or for manual writing, for office internal use. Once fully used, paper is sold further for recycling.-We donot use single use plastic like plastic cups or plastic plates or even sealed water bottles in office. For our each guest we give stainless steel water bottles that can be used each day for filling filtered water from their hotels before leaving for visits…this avoids using Plastic Mineral water bottles.
-To receive our guests at airport, hand written reusable board is used instead of a paper paging board or laminated paper paging board.
-As a welcome kit, guests are handed over cloth bags which can be used for shopping or to carry small items during the travel in India and later can be carried back home for further use.
