Description of Tibet 15 day tour, culture & trekking

What an amazing way to see Tibet: this two-week cultural tour features plenty of time in Lhasa, before you embark on an epic Himalayan road trip via Everest Base Camp to Mount Kailash.

Start in Lhasa with sightseeing around the Potala Palace and holy monasteries of Jokhang, Sera and Drepung. You’ll spend three days here, soaking up the culture and acclimatising to the altitude.

Then, it’s time for a road trip. Leaving Lhasa with your personal driver, you’ll pass the sacred Lake Yamdrok, one of the largest in Tibet and head to Shigatse and on to Rongbuk Monastery.

As you drive, you’ll be looking out for views of mountains that are over 8,000m high – until you get to the biggest of them all. Witness the sunrise over Everest’s peak from Northern Everest Basecamp before winding on through the Himalayas. Eventually, Mount Kailash hoves into view.

You don’t climb Mount Kailash, you walk around it; many pilgrims do, as it’s considered sacred in the Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bon religions. At the centre of this trip is a three-day trek at Mount Kailash, staying in guesthouses along the way.

You’ll return to Lhasa via Saga, Sakya and Shigatse. Expect epic drives on scenic routes, wildlife watching out the windows. Monastic attractions en route: monasteries, stupas and temples, provide welcome stops, and fascinating insights into Tibetan culture.

Our partner for this trip is an extremely experienced local operator, and you’ll be in safe hands with their wonderful guides.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

The services we provide during the trip will reduce the use of disposable items as much as possible. At the same time, we also ask the tourists participating in this trip to pack up their own garbage when traveling in the Himalayas Nature Reserve and take it away from the area.

When travelling in Tibet, please promise to sustain our environment, We distribute rubbish bags to each traveler on tour, collecting and placing the used bags to designated places. We encourage tourists to use water flasks instead of buying disposable plastic bottled drinks by providing water dispensers and even the flask itself.

The ecological environment of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is related to the destiny of mankind. We appeal to tourists to protect the ecological environment and water resources after traveling in Tibet. When traveling in Tibet, especially in forests and grasslands, you will often encounter Tibetan antelopes, wild donkeys, and wild yaks. When encountering wild animals, we will publicize local rare species and related knowledge about their protection.
Many Tibetans are vegetarian and local restaurants offer vegetarian food.

People

We guarantee that the hotels and guesthouses that all tourists stay in are run by local Tibetans to make a living for them and support their local economy and sustainable development.

We bear deep respect for Tibet culture, and tradition as well as Tibet people. All of our tour guides and drivers are native Tibetans, besides a decent salary and welfare system, we also provide in-service training and humanitarian aid for their family members when necessary.

In some remote trekking areas, we tend to dine and stay in restaurants or hostels run by local Tibetans, or even stay in their house of theirs if it’s convenient for them. We benefit locals with low incomes by paying for food and accommodations in this way.

We organize tourists to go to Tibetan villages, invite the local Tibetans to teach tourists to make Tibetan food in their own small restaurants, engage tourists in traditional farm work with Tibetan families, and design new tour routes to present Tibet as authentically as we can and create more job opportunities for Tibetans meanwhile.
