Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Carbon Reduction
The average carbon footprint on this tour is 368Kg of CO2e per person. Whilst there is no doubt we cover a lot of ground in ten days weeks, we have designed a circular itinerary that minimizes unnecessary overlap. On day two we will utilize the Tunis metro system for our tour of the city and a visit to Carthage on the coast. Our city tours of the ancient medina of Kairouan and Sousse will be on foot to reduce our footprint.
The desert camp near Douz is off grid and just uses solar power for all its electrical needs. The 'cave hotel' in Matmata (Hotel Marhala) also uses solar power.
As a travel company we are acutely aware of our impact on the environment. All of our tours display a carbon footprint, and we strive to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our tours and embracing low-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which offer the added benefit of getting a closer connection with the destination and local community.

Environment and Wildlife

We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.
We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day, there is the option of getting a large 5 or 10 litre water bottle to top up water, this bottle is then sterilized and refilled to reduce plastic wastage. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.
We have one night in the desert near Douz, given the fragile environment of the desert region the campsite encourages minimal waste.

People

Local Economy

Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travellers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest.
We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.

Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity

Our local partner in Tunisia has been operating tours in the country since 1991, 90% of the team are from Tunisia and the agency has been awarded the Jasmine d'or accreditation from the Tunisian tourism ministry for their high standards. They ensure all staff are paid at least the minimum wage in Tunisia and invest in training and development for their staff as well as supporting employment opportunities of freelance guides and tour leaders.
