Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Carbon ReductionAs this is primarily a walking trip, rather than driving, we keep our carbon footprint down and can properly immerse ourselves in the natural environment without this having a detrimental impact. We also manage to keep our carbon footprint down by excluding the use of any internal flights and by using experienced local guides, rather than having a western tour leader fly out to accompany the trip.
All meals will feature local produce, provided by the nomads themselves.
Environment and Wildlife
Most of the time on this tour is spent with the nomadic Ait Atta tribe, walking the vast landscapes of Morocco. When exploring these areas on foot we take care to stick to the trails and not to damage any of the flora, taking nothing from the environment and leaving nothing of ours behind. We operate a strict no litter policy on our tours. We always make sure to take all litter with us, disposing of it responsibly when we reach big cities and towns and we don't leave cigarette butts either. Likewise, if we see any rubbish, we pick it up when possible.
As the trip is a walking trip with camping overnight, we are avoiding detrimental pollution to the environment by not using vehicles, domestic airlines, or hotel accommodations. We will be living in harmony with nature for the week, following the simple nomadic lifestyles of the Ait Atta.
People
Local EconomyWe work with a local partner here who is deeply committed to preserving the country’s culture and heritage through local community-based tourism, and generating income for these local communities. The way the Ait Atta live and migrate has been unchanged for generations and we are privileged to be able to witness this unique way of life and to be a part of it. The Ait Atta receive income for hosting and guiding you along this route.
Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity
The main focus of this trip is spending time living alongside the Ait Atta as we join them on their annual migration. We will be contributing positively to their daily lives and actively participating in their chores such as loading pack animals, collecting firewood and herding livestock. We will accept the chief’s decisions about when to rest, when to set up camp and when to continue the journey, making sure we're not merely there to observe, but to learn and to contribute, becoming part of the caravan and living the life of a nomad.
