Western Canada family fly drive holiday
Description of Western Canada family fly drive holiday
This is a fabulous family tour in Western Canada, packed with adventure, wildlife and beautiful scenery. All of which you can explore on your own terms, with a hire car at your disposal. Below you’ll find a suggested itinerary that takes you through several of Western Canada’s most iconic destinations including Whistler, Banff National Park and Vancouver, but also several areas that are a little off the well-established tourist route. You’ll have 24/7 support along with helpful route notes so that you can travel in confidence, pausing whenever the mood takes you for a walk, a photo, or an ice cream.
Staying in locally run hotels as far as possible, this holiday can give your family some truly magical memories. In Banff there are hot springs to soak in, white water rapids to raft, bears and elk to spot. In Whistler you can track black bears on sunset canoe rides, or 4WD safaris. And in Vancouver you might join a whale watching cruise, or paddle along in a First Nations canoe with a Coast Salish guide, learning about Indigenous history in the region, and how to sing traditional songs.
Revelstoke is a pleasant and walkable town with a railway museum that will charm the little train-lovers in your family. Come in the summer for al fresco live music performances, or the winter for dog sledding. Further south, the Okanagan Valley is gorgeous, with orchards of peaches and apricots, a lake where you can hire kayaks or SUPs, and abundant wineries offering cellar door tastings. And Sun Peaks is another lovely place to spend a night or two, with plenty of walking trails and family-friendly activities in the area.
Your Western Canada family tour will take you through some of the country’s most stirring scenery. But it’s not only the landscapes you’ll remember from this trip, but the experiences you have as you go: sampling the delicious street food in Banff and Vancouver; paddling along rivers in search of wildlife; larking about in lakes; or strapping in for some of Canada’s highest ziplines. And because your schedule is entirely your own, you can experience all of it at a pace that suits your family.

Any activities undertaken are strictly controlled within the park or region that they take place. ie. hikes and mountain bikes stick to trails so that they don’t disturb the naturally environment that they go through. Western Canada is particularly blessed with some incredible National Parks, including Banff National Park, the Rockies - in the Kootenay wilderness region and a huge number of trails around the resort of Sun Peaks.Any motorised boat trips stay away from environmentally sensitive areas, and we encourage families to enjoy kayaking and stand-up paddle where possible, which are less harmful to the environment, but allow them to enjoy the fabulous landscape without noise. in Western Canada, there are activities abound on Okanangan Lake - so we recommend the quieter forms of water craft, as well as Heffley Lake, where kayak and SUP rules.
With our self-drive trips, we always suggest routings and attraction and accommodation ideas that are off the beaten track. This means clients avoid main roads and heavy traffic – and it encourages visitation to less well-known places, away from the crowds, where the tourism dollar is more needed and appreciated.
Wherever possible, we also actively support attractions, accommodation and service providers accommodations that have their own environmental policies in place and encourage our clients to ensure their own environmental footprint is minimised wherever possible.
British Columbia is suitable for electric vehicles, but given the distances involved, it does require additional planning so you can be confident of the charging network. On this trip we are able to offer an Electric Vehicle upgrade, on request. If this is of interest please do contact us to discuss the support we can offer.

We have taken time to work with our Canadian partners to ensure our clients are encouraged to use accommodation and support products that are authentic and support local businesses and communities. Our partners are Canadian based and comply with all relevant laws that protect the rights of their employees.Prior to departure, we let our clients know about local customs, specially relating to indigenous communities and their traditions.
Wherever possible, we use locally owned accommodation that supports the communities in the area and provides employment to the local population. We also try to ensure that local produce is used and we suggest restaurants that are unique and used locally sourced ingredients. Penicton in the Okanagan Valley is bursting with examples of wonderful restaurants using locally sourced (and sometimes) foraged ingredients. Wild Flour in Banff is a wonderful example of a local artisan bakery and there are any number of restaurants proud to serve strictly local ingredients in the bustling city of Vancouver
In order to promote the overall health of their workforce, one of our first nation accommodation providers has also established the Employee Wellness Programme, which aims to address the holistic health needs of not only their staff, but also of the communities that surround their lodge. In essence, the programme is devoted to reducing the incidence of accident and illness in the workplace, promoting healthy lifestyles, maximizing potential and promoting optimum quality of life.
