Planet
The main way this country monitors the enviornment is through its national parks and wildlife reserves... protecting the land and ocean so that its kept untouched or at least the less impact possible. The National Conservation Areas System SINAC protects 161 areas including 25 National Parks, 8 Biological Reserves, 32 Protected Zones, and 58 wildlife refuges. Costa Rica has been a world leader in conservation policies with protected areas and the best way to support these progressive and sustainable conservation policies is to visit national parks. That is why this accessible trip visits 5 protected life zones. With this guided visits we promote this effort and cause.
As well our guests will be part of our recycle policies. They will learn everything about plastic and will donate during their trip all the plastic they find or use. This plastic will be donated to DONATAPA which uses it to create Accessible Beaches around Costa Rica. This way our travelers will also be part of the innovation of creating an accessible destination by recycling. The trip also includes a local handcrafts workshop where we will reuse recycle materials in our crafts.
Another conservation activity we can include on your package is that you participate, donate time, and help at a centre that rescues hurt animals rehabilitates them back into the wild. For example ZooAve - which is not a zoo, but a wildlife sanctuary - rescues animals and reintroduces to the wild.
People
This wheelchair accessible trip around Costa Rica visits small communities where we help to support local traditions, activate the local economy, generate safe interaction, and knowledge exchange.By visiting the artisan town of Sarchi we encourage this artisans to continue passing the art from generation to generation. The colorfully-painted wooden oxcarts (called carretas in Spanish), their teams of matched oxen, and their oxcart drivers are known around the world. In 2005, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) proclaimed Costa Rica’s vibrantly painted, traditional oxcarts to be an Intangible World Cultural Heritage. Since 1988, the oxcart has been the National Labor Symbol for Costa Rica. This are the reasons why we consider this visit a very important one for tourists and locals alike.
We will also visit an organic local farmer who has a 100% sustainable and self sufficient farm. The impact of organic agriculture on natural resources favours interactions within the agro-ecosystem that are vital for both agricultural production and nature conservation. This activity is very important also because it gives new information to our travelers and farmers alike. It's a simbiosis. This agro friendly activity ends with a cooking lesson with the farmer's wife.
And finally the rural ladies of Sarapiqui area will be in charge of the local workshop where we can use recycled materials to create artisan products. The main cultural and social activities are preserving and supporting local economies.
