Description of Wheelchair accessible holiday in Japan

Japan’s most iconic journey, reimagined for ease, comfort and full wheelchair accessibility. This adapted Golden Route connects the energy of Tokyo, the serenity of Mount Fuji, and the elegance of Kyoto and Nara — all with seamless transport, private guides where needed, and handpicked accessible stays.

From the moment you land, your trip is made easy. A private, accessible vehicle meets you at the airport — no need to leave your chair — and whisks you into Tokyo’s historic Asakusa district. With step-free access to temples, museums and restaurants, it’s a gentle yet immersive start to the trip. A local guide will help you master Japan’s famously efficient transport system, showing you just how accessible and stress-free travel here can be.

Then it’s on to Mount Fuji for a breath of fresh mountain air, before gliding westward on the bullet train to Kyoto. Here, a private driver helps you navigate the city’s highlights — from golden temples to geisha districts — before heading even further back in time to the ancient capital of Nara.

You’ll wrap up in Osaka and then Shinjuku, two lively urban hubs where you’ll have the freedom and confidence to explore independently. Accessible subways, thoughtful planning, and 24/7 local support make this a trip where nothing feels off-limits.

This itinerary is proof: thoughtful design makes for unforgettable travel — and Japan, done right, is open to all.

Dietary Requirements
Our tailor-made itineraries are designed as flexible suggestions. If a hotel or accommodation on the proposed route is unable to meet specific dietary requirements, we can replace it with a suitable alternative. In cases where no alternatives are available in a particular destination, we will discuss other options with the client to ensure their needs are met.
All itineraries can be adapted to cater for vegetarian and vegan diets, as well as other dietary preferences or restrictions. While the range of options may vary by region, we will always work to ensure that clients are accommodated as comfortably as possible.

Accessibility

Accessible tourism overview:
We have an Accessible Committee which is made up of staff from across our offices to further research and promote this area. We are very proud of our wheelchair accessible Japan itinerary and have received fantastic feedback for it. Making Japan accessible to everyone has always been one of our main goals. No two of us are alike, so no two trips should be the same. There are myriad ways in which we can tailor your holiday to suit exactly what you want and need. We are committed to continue learning and training our staff on this area.
Limited mobility:
Our trips are tailor made meaning we can cater for you and your exact requirements. If you let us know what you need, we can research, and map out each part of your route, from airport to hotel, from hotel to station, with detailed explanations on where to find elevators and how to avoid using steps. We even provide instructions in Japanese, meaning that you can show the station staff or helpful passersby what you require.
Wheelchair:
We can provide wheelchair accessible vehicles and arrange for drivers to meet you at the airport. We know Japan inside out and can arrange accommodation suitable for wheelchair users on any budget. Our city guides are also well informed on how to use public transport while using a wheelchair and will explain how the public transport system works. Let us know your must-see sights and we will make sure you see them (we have hired wheelchair compatible minivans before to get to Mount Fuji and beyond). Many of the sights and districts in Japan are wheelchair friendly and if you let us know what you want from our trip, we will find a way of making it happen for you.
Blind or limited vision:
We are more than happy to cater for people who are blind or have limited vision and all our tours are available to book if travelling with a sighted person.
Deaf or limited hearing:
We are more than happy to cater for people who are deaf or have limited hearing, and all our tours are available to book providing they are travelling with a hearing person.
Cognitive conditions:
Yes, we warmly welcome all travellers, though depending on the cognitive condition we might advise that they do not travel alone.
'Free from' food:
We can cater for Vegetarians, Vegans, Gluten free and other specialist diets. We are more than happy to take individual requests into consideration when designing a tour, which includes specialist restaurant recommendations etc.
LGBT:
We welcome everyone regardless of their background, gender etc. Everyone can benefit from travel and we believe travel should be open to everyone.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

As a company we are incredibly passionate about Japan, and thus strive to reduce the negative impact on the environment that tourism can cause.

This wheelchair-accessible Japan trip is designed to make your journey not just memorable, but kind to the environment and wildlife too. Travelling in a private, tailormade way means fewer emissions compared with larger tours, so moving between Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka has a lighter environmental impact. With private accessible vehicles, step-free transport, and Japan’s famously efficient bullet trains, you can enjoy the country comfortably while knowing your travel is responsible.

Even visits to natural and cultural spots, like Mount Fuji’s 5th Station, Lake Kawaguchiko, or peaceful gardens such as Rikugien and Shinjuku Gyoen, are planned to minimise disruption to the surroundings. Thoughtful planning ensures that your adventure is smooth, enjoyable, and gentle on both nature and wildlif

People

Your journey also supports the wonderful communities you’ll meet along the way. Staying in handpicked, accessible hotels, enjoying meals in local restaurants, and visiting temples, museums, and cultural districts all help local businesses thrive.

Where possible, rather than using Western hotel chains, we have chosen wheelchair-accessible rooms in Japanese owned accommodation, ensuring that our business contributes directly back to the Japanese economy and tourism industry.

The trip also promotes inclusive employment, giving opportunities to people from all walks of life who make your experience possible. From friendly drivers and guides to staff at your accommodations, everyone plays a part in making your adventure effortless and welcoming.

Visiting iconic sites like Todai-ji Temple, Kinkakuji, and Horyu-ji not only offers unforgettable experiences but also helps preserve Japan’s rich traditions and heritage. With this carefully designed itinerary, your travel leaves a meaningful, positive mark while letting you enjoy Japan fully.
